Services Offered By Shady Lane Shady lane models of Bideford are authorized Warranty and service agents for Hornby.
We also service/repair other makes and scales of model locomotives. If we cannot repair your model then we say so at no charge. Models can be brought to the shop or sent by royal mail. Before sending, contact us first to discuss work involved and also the cost. Servicing starts at £5 plus cost of parts used and return postage if sent.
We also fit decoders for DCC operation of your loco's. We can supply Bachmann, Digitrax, TCS or Lenz decoders or you can provide your own.
The fitting cost is as follows:- DCC ready £10.00 Not DCC ready £13.00 Sound decoders can also be fitted at an extra cost of £5 on top of the rellevant fitting charge.
Some 'N' gauge loco's have live chassis on one side of the motor, these require a conversion kit to be fitted this will add £7 to the cost. You will be informed of this before any work is done.
The work involved is that the loco is tested first, if it does not run well then I do not fit the decoder.
(the myth is that DCC will run loco's better, this is not true. If it is a bad runner it will still be a bad runner and in some cases even worse ) The decoder is also tested and then if all is working the fitting can go ahead. After fitting, all is again tested and optimized for the best running.
SHADY LANE ARE AUTHORISED DCC INSTALLERS FOR DAPOL LOCOMOTIVES
(if we install a decoder into your new dapol locomotive you do not lose your warranty)
